'Hope World Cup Not Only About India & Pakistan': Gautam Gambhir Mocks BCCI

One of the greatest cricketing rivalries, India and Pakistan will continue their on-field tussle when both teams go up against each other on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Both teams recently placed in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 and will once again lock horns on September 10 in the Super Four stage.

With so many India-Pakistan encounters taking place including in World Cup 2023, former India player Gautam Gambhir hoped that Team India's focus for the marquee event remains on lifting the trophy.

Speaking on Star Sports, the two-time IPL-winning captain with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) further explained that fans, broadcasters, and the nation should be only focused on winning the title.

Here's what Gambhir said

"England had the last laugh. You go into that tournament not thinking that we have only got to beat Pakistan. And I hope that doesn’t happen in the 50-over World Cup in India as well. I hope it’s not only about India and Pakistan on October 14. I hope it’s about India playing the World Cup final and lifting the Cup because you never know how many people will be part of the next World Cup from this World Cup team. And it only happens after 4 years."

"For us as a nation, for us as fans, for us as broadcasters, everything should not only be focused on India and Pakistan. It’s all about winning the World Cup. Pakistan is just a block. It’s just a step toward winning the World Cup."

India's World Cup 2023 campaign starts October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
