India registered an emphatic ten wicket win over Nepal in Match 5 of Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Monday, sealing their spot in the Super Fours alongside Pakistan.

IND vs NEP Report: How did the battle pan out?

Sharma and Gill's Unyielding Partnership Steers India

Tasked with chasing a target of 231, Indian captain, Rohit Sharma surprised many with his initially reserved tactics. Rohit's first six dots was a proof of his cautious approach.

However, the match took a turn as rain interruptions led to a revised target of 145 from 23 overs. Once the game resumed, Rohit and Gill unleashed a batting masterclass, churning out runs with remarkable ease and flair. Both batsmen achieved their half-centuries, ensuring India's cruise to victory without losing a wicket.

Nepal's Early Promise Thwarted by Indian Bowlers

Nepal’s innings began on a promising note with openers Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh setting a brisk pace, scoring 65/0 in just 9.4 overs. The tide shifted with Shardul Thakur's timely breakthrough, marking the beginning of Nepal's mid-innings wobble.

Kami’s Heroics in Vain as Nepal Stumbles

Amidst the collapsing batting order, Sompal Kami emerged as a beacon for Nepal, crafting a valiant 48 off 56 balls. His spirited innings propelled Nepal past the 200-run mark, injecting some hope.

Yet, the resurgence was short-lived. Nepal's innings came to a halt at 230 in 48.2 overs, truncating their full batting stretch.

Indian Bowlers Deliver The Goods

Ravindra Jadeja was the linchpin for India, snapping up three crucial wickets and maintaining a stingy economy rate. Complementing him was Kuldeep Yadav, whose wicketless but miserly spell of 10-0-34-0 choked Nepal's run flow. Mohammed Siraj also chipped in with three scalps while Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Thakur bagged a wicket each.
