Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin weaved his magic with the ball on day 3 of the ongoing Ranchi Test, running through England's top order with a sensational spell.

After getting Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope on consecutive deliveries, Ashwin trapped Joe Root plumb in front of the stumps, reducing England to 65 for three in their second innings.

The incident occurred in the 17th over when Root and Zak Crawley were trying to steady the ship after the early blows. However, Ashwin struck for the third time on the day, helping India get the prized scalp of Root.

Bowling around the stumps, Ashwin bowled an under-cutter that went with the angle, beating Root on his defence. The ball struck Root on his front pad, as the Indian players appealed for an LBW. Meanwhile, the on-field umpire wasn't impressed, deciding in the batter's favour.

However, Ashwin convinced Rohit Sharma to go upstairs, to which the skipper obliged. In the replay, the Hawkeye predicted three reds, with the TV umpire asking his on-field colleague to overturn his decision.

After Root departed, Jonny Bairstow joined Crawley in the middle. As of writing, England were 85 for three in the second innings, leading India by 131 runs.
