Rohit Sharma reinforced his class and pedigree on Day 4 of the Ranchi Test against England as the experienced Indian opener bagged a spectacular feat in his career in competitive cricket.

With his assuring knock during the Indian run-chase against the visitors, the Indian captain completed 4000 Test runs and 9,000 runs in first-class cricket.

As the 36-year-old batter reached 37 not out in the Indian second-innings, he became the latest Indian batter to have produced 9,000 or more runs in the competitive red-ball game, having started the innings with 8,963 runs in 118 first-class matches at an average of 52.72.

Notably, 4017 runs of those have arrived at the Test level for the country. Rohit also averaged an impressive 45.19 with 11 centuries and 16 half-centuries before the start of the Indian run-chase and managed to better his average by the close of the innings.

The Indian batting stalwart has been a tremendous player for India ever since he began opening the innings. Overcoming the troubles faced to establish himself in the side during the early part of his career, the 36-year-old has transformed his fortunes as a top-order stalwart.

Before he began opening the innings, Rohit had played his first 27 Tests at an average of 39.62 with three centuries. Ever since then, however, he has averaged nearly 50 with the bat over the past 31 Tests and has added eight hundreds next to his name.
