Day 1 of the 2nd Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh got washed out because of rain. The fans would pray for rain gods to stay away from Rawalpindi and get some game time.

More rain is bad news for the hosts, as they are trailing 0-1 in the two-match series and a day wasted is something they would not want at this stage.

The Shan Masood-led side would hope for more onus from the batters, especially the youngsters in the team. The one positive for Pakistan in the first game was Saim Ayub, who looked good and showed intent.

Despite a failure in the second innings, Ayub scored a fifty in the first innings.  It is worth noting that Ayub also performed with the ball and took the crucial wicket of Shakib Al Hasan. The PCB is backing the southpaw, but former cricketer Salman Butt has raised his voice in support of Imam Ul-Haq, who has been ignored by Pakistan cricket.

Salman Butt criticises Imam-u-Haq's exclusion from Pakistan side

Notably, Imam, who was a regular for Pakistan at the top of the order, was dropped from the side after a disappointing Australia tour last year.

Meanwhile, Butt has slammed Pakistan cricket and remarked that the management could have asked Imam to change his intent and should have given him a longer rope.

“I think that Imam must be feeling very hard done [by], especially when he was told that his intent was not right in the Australia series,” he said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“And those who said that they have nothing to do with cricket. But someone must have told him [what] to say, someone must have assigned him on duty, someone must have told him that you talk to him (Imam). And the people who play cricket, I don’t know why they hesitate.”

Saim Ayub A Candidate For The Future

Ayub's selection in the team is not restricted to any format, as Pakistan cricket are looking at him as the future of Pakistan cricket. Notably, the southpaw also opened the innings for the Men in Green during T20 World Cup 2024 where Pakistan suffered an early exit.
