In the latest development, Suryakumar Yadav, the skipper of India's T20I team, has suffered a concerning hand injury in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament while playing against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI.

Suryakumar Yadav's Injury Details And Match Performance

The injury occurred on the third day of the match when Suryakumar was fielding at leg slip and attempted to stop a flick shot by Pradosh Ranjan Paul off Musheer Khan's bowling.

The ball struck his hand, which caused him significant pain, further leading to his immediate exit from the field.

The intensity of the injury can be serious as he did not return to the field on Day 3 and also missed out on batting in Mumbai’s second innings. His team struggled in the match, with poor performances in both innings and ultimately faced a heavy defeat by 286 runs.

It is important to mention that Suryakumar Yadav's injury raises concerns about his availability for the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024, where he was expected to make a case for his return to the Test team.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) regarding the extent of his injury, which might leave his participation in the Duleep Trophy in doubt.

Suryakumar Yadav Ambitions To Make A Comeback In Test Cricket

Suryakumar Yadav, widely recognized for his prowess in T20 cricket, recently reiterated his ambition to make a mark in Test cricket.

Despite his success in the shortest format, where he is considered one of the world's top T20 batters, his ODI performances have been less impactful.

His only Test appearance came against Australia in February 2023, where he managed just eight runs, which left him eager to prove his worth in the longer format.

For the upcoming Duleep Trophy, Suryakumar is currently a member of the India C squad led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. His potential absence could be a significant blow to the team.

Given India's packed Test schedule over the next few months, including around 10 matches, if he can participate his performance in the Duleep Trophy will be closely observed. This could significantly boost his chances of making a comeback to the Test team.
