Stylish opener Saim Ayub showcased his batting attributes in Pakistan's ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After being invited to bat first, Pakistan had a torrid start to their innings, as Bangladesh pacers capitalised on the seam-friendly conditions to scalp three quick wickets.

However, Saim and newly appointed vice-captain Saud Shakeel stabilised Pakistan's innings, stitching a valiant stand for the fourth wicket.

But soon after completing his half-century, Saim was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud, who earlier got the prized wicket of Abdullah Shafique

The incident occurred during the 32nd over of Pakistan's innings when Bangladesh were desperately searching for a breakthrough.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's decision to bring Hasan Mahmud into the attack paid rich dividends for the visitors, as the right-arm pacer dismissed Ayub.

From around the wicket, Hasan Mahmud bowled a full-length delivery, inviting the Saim for a drive. As the southpaw went for a drive with hard hands, he only managed an outside edge, with the ball travelling towards the slips.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz did no mistake, as he claimed a sharp catch to send Saim back to the dugout.

Saud-Saim bail Pakistan out of trouble

Earlier in the game, the hosts lost Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique cheaply, while ace batter Babar Azam departed for a duck. However, Saim and Shakeel formed a counterattacking stand to steady the ship.

After Ayub's dismissal, keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan joined Shakeel in the middle. As of writing, Pakistan were 119 for four, with Shakeel and Rizwan batting on 46* and 1*, respectively.
