Marnus Labuschagne is ready for anything. Whether it's batting at no. 3 or walking out to open for Australia in the Ashes, the Queenslander says he'll do whatever it takes to earn his place back in the side.

As Australia prepares for the much-anticipated Ashes opener in Perth next month, Labuschagne has emerged as a leading candidate to open the innings.

The move could allow both Cameron Green and Beau Webster, two all-rounders in top form, to stay in the XI.

And if that means Marnus Labuschagne has to move up the order, he's not fazed one bit. Labuschagne, who loves to bat at no. 3, said he wouldn't mind opening the innings if that boosts his chances of finding a spot in the playing XI.

"I'd say 'great [to open]. It honestly doesn't concern me, I just want to be playing cricket at my best. This year I've been in in the first few overs a few times. You're used to it batting No.3, and I've batted there probably 95 per cent of my career in both formats. So I'm very used to being in early. If I have to open, great. If I bat three, great. Wherever there's a spot for me I'll take it and we'll go from there," Marnus said as quoted by Yahoo Sports.

Dropped from the Test side earlier this year after a lean patch, Labuschagne has since gone back to the basics and, more importantly, back to enjoying the game.

He admitted that he had been overthinking his batting and letting technical doubts creep into his mind. Now, he's taken a less-is-more approach.

"Mentally I'm a lot clearer on my game and not getting too much deep thought into certain dismissals or methods. It's not the actual training in the nets, I absolutely love that, I can do that all day. But at times I feel like my technique gets in a space where I go home and I'm like 'maybe I want to do this or maybe I want to go and try that'. Now I'm trying to stay out of my own way really and go out there and trust my skills when I get to the middle," he added.

Marnus Labuschagne’s performance is tough to ignore

Despite getting dropped for poor form, Marnus Labuschagne continued his grind in domestic cricket. The Queensland star has hammered four centuries in just five innings, including 2 in the Sheffield Shield.

So far in the Sheffield Shield, he has scored 341 runs in 4 innings with an 85.25 average.

With this red-hot streak, Labuschagne has not only silenced his critics but also sent a strong message ahead of the upcoming Test showdown.
