The biggest celebration of the Test cricket is coming up next month as the iconic Ashes is returning with another edition of the unreal red-ball thrills. As the stars of both English and Australian side are excited for their famous rivalry, fans can’t wait to watch the actions live.

Staying away from Australia’s red-ball setup for a while, Marnus Labuschagne proved his excellence in the domestic circuit. In a recent interaction, Steve Smith revealed that Labuschagne shared his ambitious goal of Ashes return with him.

Labuschagne reveals ambitious goal to Smith

Once hailed as the number one Test batter, Marnus Labuschagne faced a massive slump in his Test career that he has been dropped from Australia’s red-ball side. In the recent Test series against West Indies, the Aussie batter was not a part of Australia’s playing XI as Cameron Green has replaced him in the squad. But Labuschagne answered with his performances.

As the performance is already backing him fir his desired Ashes call-up but the Aussie batter has manifested is long ago. As quoted by Fox Sports, Steve Smith shared how Labuschagne had confided in him about his determined plan to make a Test comeback.

“He said to me at the start of the summer, ‘I’ll be in that Test team come the first (Ashes) Test. He’s backed up his words, probably,” he said.

Labuschagne’s excellence impresses Smith

Setting eyes on his Test return, Marnus Labuschagne brought the best out of him in recent outings. In the domestic format, he slammed four tons in five innings. With his inclusion in Australia’s ODI squad against India, a spot in the Ashes side seems within reach. Steve Smith, meanwhile, didn’t hide his pride in Labuschagne’s remarkable rise.

“I sent him a message a couple of days ago saying how proud I was of him,” he said.

“He’s obviously got dropped from the team. He’s gone back and he’s got four hundreds in five hits. It’s a pretty big statement. He’s obviously not selected yet, but he’s done a lot of things right,” he added.

As the Ashes is set to start on November 21, and the preparation has already began. While Australia is yet to announce its squad, Marnus Labuschagne is eagerly eyeing a triumphant return to the Test arena.
