"I Thrive On Proving The Doubters Wrong…,": Labuschagne's Strong Message After Test Snub

Marnus Labuschagne, for a long time, was Australia's permanent number 3. He scored runs across the world, and at one point in time, the batter's consistency was matching up with Steve Smith.

However, over the last couple of years, his form has dwindled, and it has created pressure on selectors to drop him. The right-handed batter played his last Test in the World Test Championship Final against South Africa as an opener, but could not make any significant contribution and was subsequently left out of the playing XI against the Windies.

Marnus Labuschagne Cherishes Period Of Struggle

Now, Marnus Labuschagne, for the first time since that omission, has opened up on his place in the Test side. The right-handed batter in his interview to News Corp stated that the snub has given him an opportunity to reflect on his game and get away from the media pressure.

"This [being left out] has given me an opportunity to reflect and not having the pressure of the media saying, 'Marnus has got to go'," Marnus Labuschagne told News Corp.

Labuschagne added that he cherishes such opportunities to prove his doubters wrong. He revealed that the Windies series helped him think about the game and chalk out a plan.

"I mean that's part of the game. There is a tipping point but it's something I thrive on… proving the doubters wrong and being able to find a way. Missing those West Indies Tests gave me the chance to back and think, 'This is where I want to be and this is how I'm going to get there."

Marnus Labuschagne Reveals His Favourite Batting Position

Marnus Labuschagne also made it clear that number 3 is his preferred position to bat. However, he has also said that he would not let go of an opportunity to open the batting if the team management wants.

"I would be happy to do that - I would love to. If opener is where I need to bat to be playing in the Test team, that's fine. If you had asked me where I prefer to bat, obviously, I have batted at three my whole career, but at this stage, you don't get a choice. I opened in the World Test Championship final and felt I batted quite well. I got in but did not go on with it."

Thus, Marnus Labuschagne has kept all his options open so far and is eager to get back into the Test XI.
