India did the unthinkable by beating Australia in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final to fix their spot in the final. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur anchored the historic 339-run chase.
Australia were way ahead in the game when they set up a daunting total of 338 runs on the board in the first inning.
However, the India Women were determined to make the moment count and script history on their home soil.

Despite losing openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana early in the chase, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues rebuilt the innings with a record 167-run partnership for the third wicket.
When Kaur departed, India were down 226/3. But Rodrigues kept her calm and scored a match-defining century.
Despite being visibly exhausted, she fought till the end and guided India to a successful run chase with 9 balls to spare. As India hit the winning runs, fans flooded social media with emotional reactions.
Winning against a dominant side like Australia in a knockout game was a big achievement, and hence, fans celebrated it on social media.

With that win, India qualified for the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. They’ll meet South Africa to stake a claim on the trophy on November 2 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
