Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a cryptic tweet, ‘Just leave it’, on social media after India lost the 2nd ODI to Australia. With no context in sight, fans were quick to link it to Virat Kohli.

India lost the ODI series in Adelaide after Australia secured a 2-wicket win. Kohli registered his second consecutive duck, while Rohit Sharma rediscovered his form to slam 73 off 97 balls.

However, the 264-run total wasn’t enough, as Matthew Short (74) and Cooper Connolly (61) guided Australia to a successful chase in 46.2 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin stirs debate with a no-context tweet

Meanwhile, after India dropped the series, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a tweet saying, “Just leave it.” He didn’t provide any context behind the picture, which led to widespread assumptions.

Some fans were quick to connect it to Virat Kohli, suggesting Ashwin had asked Kohli to retire.

However, some fans also claimed that Ashwin took a dig at head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

That being said, the ex-spinner is yet to provide clarity on the tweet. But the post has already received thousands of engagements as the debate continues to heat up.

Heat is building on Virat Kohli

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli found himself in the line of fire after back-to-back ducks in Australia. In the Perth ODI, he holed out to Mitchell Starc, walking back to an 8-ball duck.

In Adelaide, where Kohli used to rule in his prime, Xavier Bartlett trapped him in an LBW dismissal on a 4-ball duck. Kohli walked back, possibly for the final time in Adelaide, as the crowd stood up to applaud him.

Regardless, two consecutive failures could massively backfire on Virat Kohli as he is fighting tooth and nail to find a spot in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

With the management reportedly unwilling to carry the veteran forward, these failures will only deflate Kohli's hopes.
