In a nail-biting 2nd ODI in Adelaide, Australia edged past India by 2 wickets, chasing down 264/9 in 46.2 overs.

India struggled early as Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli lost cheaply to Xavier Bartlett, but Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer constructed a vital 118-run stand.

Australia, in the second innings, recovered from early losses, with Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly anchoring the chase to seal a tense victory and a 2-0 series lead.

Virat Kohli goes for a duck, but Rohit Sharma pulls things back

After being sent in to bat, India lost Shubman Gill on 9 and Virat Kohli on a duck, both dismissed by the in-form Xavier Bartlett, who once again impressed with his swing and accuracy.

Kohli scored his second consecutive duck of the series after getting trapped in a plumb LBW dismissal. From 17/2, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer pulled things back beautifully.

They steadied the innings with a crucial 118-run stand for the third wicket, which got India back into the game. Rohit spearheaded the effort with an explosive 73 off 97 balls innings, while Iyer also showed grit with a 61-run knock until Adam Zampa cleaned him up.

Zampa’s clever variations and subtle flight changes proved decisive once again as he ran through India’s middle order, picking 4 wickets for 60 runs.

From 174/5, India’s lower order chipped in crucial runs. There was a fiery cameo from Harshit Rana (24 off 18), while Axar Patel's elegant contribution of 44 offered some much-needed solidity.

With that effort, India posted 264/9 at the end of the first 50 overs. Apart from Zampa, Xavier Bartlett picked 3 wickets, while Mitchell Starc’s 2/62 rounded off an impressive bowling display.

Australia hold nerves to seal thrilling 2-wicket win

In reply, Australia lost early wickets with Mitchell Marsh (11) and Travis Head (28) falling cheaply on 54/2.

However, despite the early setbacks, Matthew Short joined hands with Matt Renshaw to anchor the innings with a 50-run partnership. Harshit Rana and Axar Patel chipped wickets in between, but it wasn’t enough.

Just when India thought they had an opening by reducing Australia to 187/5, Cooper Connolly (61 off 53 balls) and Mitchell Owen (36 off 23 balls) stood up with a 59-run partnership. Their effort and grit added momentum as Australia inched closer to the target.

India tried to fight back with tight spells from Arshdeep, Harshit, and Washington. They clipped a few wickets in the end, but the required run rate was already under control.

Arshdeep Singh’s wide in the 47th over guided Australia to a 2-wicket victory with just 9 balls to spare. For India, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar chipped in 2 wickets each, while Siraj and Axar Patel contributed with a solitary wicket each.

With that eventful match in Adelaide, Australia sealed the 3-game ODI series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
