Australia have won the 3-match ODI series by defeating India in the first two games. With terrific all-round performance in both matches, the home team has taken the trophy home. In the second match, they chased down 264 runs with two wickets to spare. Cooper Connolly's match-winning 61-run knock helped Australia beat the visitors.
After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill spoke about the team's performance and the challenges they faced during the matches. Moreover, Gill is also under scrutiny for not touching two digits in both matches.
Shubman Gill opens up on India's loss
India's performance against Australia has been quite disappointing in both games. Despite having the legendary duo Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back in the team, the batting performances didn't improve. Moreover, the management's decision to play Harshit Rana over Kuldeep Yadav has also not been in the team's favor. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gill talked about the toss and the pitch conditions.
"We had just enough runs on the board. Never easy when you drop a couple of chances to be able to defend that kind of a total. In the first game, it (toss) was more crucial because of the rain. But in this game, I wouldn't say that much because both the teams played for almost 50 overs. The wicket was doing a little bit more initially. But I think the wicket settled pretty nicely after 15-20 overs," said Shubman Gill at the post-match presentation.
He missed out on a really big knock: Shubman Gill
Rohit Sharma's 73 off 97 balls helped India post a respectable total on the board. He hit seven boundaries and two sixes in his innings. Like every cricket fan, captain Gill also felt that Rohit missed out on a well-deserved century as Mitchell Starc dismissed him.
"Never easy, coming back and to play some competitive cricket after a long time. But the initial phase was very challenging. Very pleased the way he batted. Fought out in the initial phase. I would say he missed out on a really big knock," added Gill.
