Bangladesh opening batsmen, Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan, wrote their names in the record books with a mesmerizing 176-run stand against West Indies in Mirpur.

The duo gave Bangladesh a dream start in the third ODI, playing with confidence, timing, and aggression.

Their partnership is now a part of an elite record list. On that note, here’s a look at the top 5 highest opening partnerships for Bangladesh in ODIs.

5. 154 - Soumya Sarkar & Tamim Iqbal vs South Africa, 2015

In 2015, Bangladesh achieved one of their greatest ODI victories, and this 154-run opening partnership against South Africa was the key to that triumph. They were chasing 169.

And Soumya Sarkar was boldly destructive that day, belting 90 off 75 balls, while Tamim contributed 61, keeping the Proteas always in the back foot. Their aggressive approach stunned the South Africans and powered Bangladesh to a historic 9-wicket win.

4. 158 - Anamul Haque & Tamim Iqbal vs Zimbabwe, 2014

In a big stand against Zimbabwe, Anamul Haque and Tamim Iqbal stitched a 158-run partnership in the 2nd ODI of the series held at Chattogram. Batting first, Anamul played with maturity beyond his years, scoring 80, while Tamim chipped in with a fluent 76.

Their partnership helped Bangladesh post a commanding total of 251 runs, setting up a comfortable 68-run victory. It was also one of the innings that established Anamul as a dependable top-order batter for the Tigers.

3. 170 - Mehrab Hossain & Shahriar Hossain vs Zimbabwe, Dhaka, 1999

Rewind to 1999, Bangladesh wasn’t even a Test-playing nation yet, but Mehrab Hossain and Shahriar Hossain gave the team a taste of what a dominant opening stand could look like. Their 170-run stand against Zimbabwe in the Meril tournament was a turning point for the Tigers.

Mehrab was Bangladesh's first ever ODI centurion in the match, he scored 101 runs, while Shahriar batted the perfect second fiddle with a gritty 68. While Zimbabwe lost the game by 3 wickets, this stand set the tone for Bangladesh's increasing confidence on the international scene.

2. 176 - Soumya Sarkar & Saif Hassan vs West Indies, 2025

The most recent addition is the 3rd ODI vs West Indies in Mirpur, Bangladesh, when Soumya Sarkar and Saif Hassan teamed up to dismantle the West Indies bowling attack. Their partnership of 176 runs was a great mix between aggression and control.

Soumya began with aggression through 91 runs, cutting gaps at ease, while Saif acted as the anchor, rotating strike sensibly and scoring 90 runs. The pair was in sync, both drawing from each other's rhythm and playing a healthy run rate. This partnership helped Bangladesh gain a strong foothold in the contest which was very important to win.

1. 292 - Litton Das & Tamim Iqbal vs Zimbabwe, 2020

This partnership is nothing short of legendary. On a sunny afternoon in Sylhet, Litton Das and Tamim Iqbal demolished Zimbabwe’s bowling attack to post a record-breaking 292-run opening stand, the highest ever for Bangladesh in ODIs.

Litton was just sublime as he scored a blistering 176 runs off just 143 balls, with Tamim holding the innings together with perfection with 128 off 109 balls. Not only did their partnership establish a record-breaking total of 322 runs, but it also solidly put their names in the cricket history of Bangladesh.
