In a significant development, the all-important Women's World Cup match between India and New Zealand at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai has been interrupted by heavy rain. The downpour hit the stadium right before the end of the first innings as India were cruising for 329/2 after 48 overs.

The rain had started a long ago at the DY Patil Stadium, but the umpires kept the game on as innings was about to end. However, the rain intensified forcing the players to return to the pavilion. At the time of writing this article, the rain is getting heavier and heavier and it doesn't look like that the game will start anytime soon because the groundsmen have covered the entire stadium.

It looks like that the match is heading towards a stage where overs will be lost and the team fielding will have a slight disadvantage because of the wet-outfield.

A rain hampered World Cup 2025

It has been a frustrating World Cup so far for the fans as rain has interrupted almost every match. The opening match itself was reduced to 47 over game because of rain. Notably, out of 24 matches played so far, five has been reduced because of rain, while four matches have been completely washed off because of rain. 

Thus, it has been frustrating for the players to adjust to the conditions because of consistent rains and it certainly has impacted the quality of the tournament.
