India and Bangladesh are playing against each other in the much-anticipated two-match series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Talking about the match, Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and invited India to bat first on a difficult track. The Indian openers failed and were not able to provide a strong start.

Hasan Mahmud Dismantles India's Top Order

Hasan Mahmud delivered a lethal spell with the new ball and destroyed the top order. Rohit Sharma failed to build a partnership and departed in the sixth over of the first innings. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were expected to deliver but Mahmud had different plans as he trapped the duo with his sheer class and temperament.

The poor batting display from the Indian top-order was under scrutiny and has been one that has been talked about since the end of the first day between India and Bangladesh.

Sanjay Manjrekar Reflects On Virat And Rohit's Poor Batting

Sanjay Manjrekar reflected on this and also stated that the senior duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should take part in the ongoing domestic tournament, the Duleep Trophy. He stated that it was difficult to bat on the tricky surface in the morning and that was the reason the top-order failed to perform.

“When you have to bat on a pitch like this. First up, Rohit Sharma was going to bowl as well, so they all saw the pick and realised the first hour or maybe the whole session was going to be tricky. The case that it’s something you get at virtually every stadium where the first hour is challenging,” he shared.

He also added that Rohit Sharma's innings and said that the skipper should spend time on the field and play with patience and control.

“Rohit Sharma had his work cut out you know he was doing what he does best, to take his time. But you know two good balls in the right length got him into trouble,” he added.

Manjrekar further added that the duo should have played and participated in the Duleep trophy in order to concentrate more on red-ball cricket.

“I said a few weeks back as well that considering the amount of international matches Rohit and Virat played in the last five years, they could have been picked for the Duleep Trophy and I’m sure the time out there would have just held them at least in the first innings where they suddenly came out cold and having had to bat first,” he commented.

India's Day 1 of the first test match vs Bangladesh did not start as per expectations, and they found themselves in deep trouble at the beginning of the day. Hasan Mahmud rattled the top order and left the hosts reeling at 144-6, however, the unbeaten 195-run partnership between R Ashwin and Jadeja ensured India ended the day in the driver's seat.
