Legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan committed a fielding blunder as his dropped catch saved Akash Deep from being dismissed on day two of the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. Shakib's fielding mishap induced an interesting reaction from Rohit Sharma, who gave a thumbs up to his action from the Indian dressing room.

The incident occurred during the 85th over of India's first innings when Akash Deep was trying to add some valuable runs to his team's tally. The hosts had a forgettable start to the day's play, losing Ravindra Jadeja's crucial wicket early in the first session. Taskin Ahmed had his tails up, having dismissed the in-form batter with a magnificent delivery.

As the fast bowler was firing on all cylinders, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto handed him the ball once again in pursuit of a breakthrough. The experienced speedster had a positive start to the over, conceding only a run off his first four deliveries.

After keeping Akash Deep quiet with three consecutive dot balls, Taskin Ahmed tested him with some short stuff. As he banged it short, the ball bounced slightly more than what Akash Deep expected. Therefore, as he threw the kitchen sink at it, the ball gobbled up in the air, following a top edge off his bat.

However, Taskin was let down by his long-time teammate Shakib Al Hasan, who failed to claim a running catch. As the talismanic all-rounder missed a golden opportunity to dismiss the tail-ender, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma seemed relieved, expressing his happiness with a quirky smile.

Taskin's Triple Strikes Jolt India On Day 2

However, the dropped catch didn't cost Bangladesh much, as Taskin Ahmed dismissed the pacer for 17 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin, who scripted India's comeback with a magnificent ton, became Taskin's third victim for 113 runs. As of writing, India were 376 for nine, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj batting on 7* and 0*, respectively.
