Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a major setback last week as star opener Travis Head was ruled out due to Covid-19. However, ahead of the team’s next game against RCB at Lucknow, bowling coach James Franklin has confirmed that Head has fully recovered.

Head’s diagnosis came at a bad time for SRH, who are already out of the playoff race. The 2016 champions have had a disappointing season, managing just 9 points from 12 matches and sitting 8th in the standings.

With nothing to lose, SRH now aims to end the season on a high as they face RCB next at Lucknow on May 23.

Travis Head Declared Free Of Covid -19

Meanwhile, just a day before their next clash against RCB, SRH pace-bowling coach James Franklin had confirmed that Travis Head had cleared all Covid protocols and was fit for selection.

“As far as I’m aware, he’s declared fit and ready to go for selection," Franklin told media (via Sportstar).

Head was diagnosed with Covid during the brief break triggered by the India-Pakistan border conflict. He did not travel with the team to Lucknow for their clash against LSG.

However, now that the Aussie has fully recovered, he will join the squad and will be available for selection against RCB. Though Head has not had the best season compared to his outstanding 2024 performance.

In IPL 2025, he has scored 281 runs from 11 matches with two fifties. His strike rate remains impressive at 156.11, but his form has dipped from last year when he scored 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.55.

Is Abhishek Sharma Available For Selection Vs RCB?

SRH’s Abhishek Sharma has been fined 25% of his match fee for his role in a heated on-field altercation with LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi. The incident occurred when Abhishek, after smashing 59 off just 20 balls, was dismissed. Rathi’s “book-signature” celebration seemed to provoke the batter, leading to a verbal spat.

The BCCI confirmed that Abhishek was guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.6 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He also received one demerit point, his first of the season. However, while Rathi is suspended, Abhishek has been left off the hook as it's his first big offence of the year, and he will be available to play against RCB.
