Gulbadin Naib, the hero of Afghanistan’s historic victory against Australia, was emotional as he won the player of the match award for his four-wicket haul. He credited his team for the hard work that finally paid off as they toppled the mighty Aussies for the very first time.

Gulbadin Naib picked a four-wicket haul to trigger a collapse in the 149 runs nominal chase. His wickets included Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David.

The veteran all-rounder was awarded the Player of the Match award for his sensational spell, and Naib couldn’t control his emotions.

Gulbadin called the victory a big achievement for his country and its cricketing culture. He also thanked the fans for their unwavering support throughout the years and revealed how months of hard work had finally paid off.

"First of all thanks to the almighty. We were waiting for it for a long time. It is a great moment for me, for my nation. It is a big achievement for our cricket. No words to say, thanks to fans who have supported us in our journey. We have worked hard in the last two months and it has paid off," Naib said.

Naib revealed that the ball wasn’t coming onto the bat when they batted first, and they used that against Australia.

He acknowledged how Afghanistan has played quality cricket throughout the tournament, as outclassing teams like New Zealand and Australia was never easy. But Naib is grateful to have an extremely passionate team and a highly supportive coaching staff.

"This is a big achievement for us it, in this World Cup, we played good cricket and first defeated New Zealand. Australia is not an easy side and we are lucky to have this kind of stuff, the management who backs and the team who backs everyone."

That being said, Gulbadin Naib understands that the job is not done. While Afghanistan will celebrate this victory, it’s important to stay focused on the ultimate goal.
