India To Be Knocked Out Of T20 WC? Semifinal Qualification Explained As AFG Defeat AUS

In a significant achievement, Afghanistan defeated Australia in a highly intense T20 World Cup Super Eights clash at Arnos Vale Stadium in St Vincent.

While the Afghans opened their account in the Group-1 standings with the win, Australia witnessed a sudden decrement to their NRR following the 21-run defeat.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's miraculous win has not only affected the Aussies and might also hamper India's chances of qualifying for the Semifinals. The Group-1 points table is wide open as any two sides, barring Bangladesh, can proceed to the knockouts as mentioned below.

Group-1 semifinal qualification scenario

If Australia defeat India by more than one run, then they will proceed to the knockouts as they have a significantly better Net Run Rate (+0.223) than Afghanistan (-0.650)

However, if Australia outclasses India by only one run, then Afghanistan must defeat Bangladesh by more than 36 runs to join the Indians as the second semifinalist from the group.

But if, in an extreme situation, India lose to Australia by a significant margin and Bangladesh incur a massive loss against Afghanistan so that the latter's NRR goes past India's, then the Men in Blue might miss out on a Semifinal qualification.

However, considering India have a NRR of +2.425, it will take a colossal effort from Afghanistan and Australia (particularly the former) to knock them out of the World Cup.
