Former cricketer Tom Moody recently opined that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) should stick with KL Rahul to open the innings for them in IPL 2024. India’s star wicket-keeper batsman KL Rahul has recently been struck with a series of injuries which has kept him on and off on the cricket field.

There have been multiple speculations of KL Rahul’s batting position for the LSG team franchise, considering his new role of middle order batsman for the Indian team. Being a top-order player for his previous franchise Punjab Kings (previously known as Kings XI Punjab), Rahul is one of the most experienced opening batsmen in the tournament.

However, with overseas opening batsmen like Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers in their squad, Lucknow might opt to make KL Rahul bat in the middle order, which might not be ideal for the team’s road to the finals of IPL 2024.

Tom Moody Predicts KL Rahul's Opening Role to be the key for LSG's Path to the Final of IPL 2024

While talking on the Star Sports Network in the show Game Plan, Tom Moody highlighted that KL Rahul opening the innings for Lucknow Super Giants might be a good path for him to open for the Indian team in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Moody also mentioned that the wicket-keeper batsman is best suited to open the innings.

"I don't think the franchise will be looking too much at accommodating, any player for that matter, around where they are best suited so they position themselves for selection outside of the IPL. KL Rahul is best suited to that particular team at the top of the order. So I can't see that changing just on the basis that it may well improve his chances for a World Cup selection.”

Further in the interview, Tom Moody discussed that LSG would be strategizing to make the best of IPL 2024 to win their maiden title. Lucknow Super Giants has made it to the qualifiers in two back-to-back seasons but have failed to make it to the finals. Moody emphasized that the team will be keen to take a step further and at least become the finalists, if not win it.

KL Rahul will be next seen leading Lucknow Super Giants in the upcoming 17th season of the Indian Premier League with Nicholas Pooran as the team's vice captain. The Indian cricketer was previously ruled out for the second half of the IPL 2023 tournament due to a hamstring injury and will be looking to make a strong comeback in the season.
