‘It’s Going To Take More Than Virat Kohli…,’ Ex-SRH Coach Speaks On RCB’s IPL 2024 Prospects

Former SRH coach Tom Moody has noted that Virat Kohli alone will not be able to take RCB to victory at the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The ex-Australian cricketer added that Kohli will be needing a collective effort from the entire RCB group instead of them being over-reliant on just a couple of players.

Tom Moody speaks on RCB’s chances for IPL 2024

While speaking on a Star Sports show, ex-SRH head coach Tom Moody predicted that Virat Kohli will have yet another prolific season with the bat in this year’s IPL 2024 event.

However, the 58-year-old added that the RCB franchise will be requiring more than Kohli’s brilliance to lift its first-ever IPL title. He said:

“Virat Kohli - you would never question his quality and class, and there is no doubt he is going to be in the leading run scorers' list in this IPL. But it's going to take more than Virat Kohli for RCB to lift the trophy. He needs a collective effort at RCB for them to be champions this year. It's not just going to be down to one person and his ability to score hundreds and hundreds of runs.”

Back in IPL 2023, the RCB franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs. Under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, they secured seven wins from their 14 league fixtures but a defeat to Gujarat Titans in their last match dented their prospects for reaching the knockout stage.

Remarkably, Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis himself finished among the top run-scorers of the season. While Kohli tallied a staggering haul of 639 runs from just 14 IPL 2023 innings, his skipper and South African-based teammate amassed over 700 runs to finish as the second highest run-getter of the competition behind ‘Orange Cap’ winner Shubman Gill.

In search of their first title win, Faf du Plessis and co. will commence their IPL 2024 campaign within the opening game itself as they are slated to face defending champions CSK on March 22. The much-awaited contest will be hosted by Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
