The T20 World Cup 2024 is finally done and dusted. After 55 gruelling matches, the tournament came to its conclusion with the Indian team clinching their second T20 World Cup trophy.

The Rohit Sharma led side defeated South Africa by 7 runs, and thus ended their 11-year drought for an ICC trophy. The tournament witnessed so many highs and lows, but at the end, it became an instant success, and cricket eventually became a popular sport in USA.

We witnessed memorable batting and bowling performances, but while we do celebrate the positives, there were lots of things to ponder upon towards the end of the tournament. Here at OneCricket, we have talked about 4 biggest letdowns of the T20 World Cup 2024.

4 Biggest Letdowns Of T20 World Cup 2024

4) Glenn Maxwell's woeful batting performance

A lot was expected of the 'Big Show' Glenn Maxwell, but the Aussie all-rounder had a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. Maxwell, looked out of touch in IPL 2024, but it was expected that he'll rise above the Ashes for the World Cup.

However, he could only accumulate 132 runs in 7 matches, and when the tea, needed him the most, Maxwell failed to deliver the goods.

3) West Indies as a host nation

No host nation has ever won a T20 World Cup, and as a result, the Windies had a big task in their hands. The Rovman Powell led side started on a positive note, and remained unbeaten throughout the group stage contests. However, disaster struck in the Super 8 stage.

In a group that comprised of South Africa, England and United States, West Indies could only defeat USA, and were taken apart in their contests Vs England and South Africa. The two losses meant that the entire unbeaten run in the group stage was vanished and the team bowed out of the tournament in Super 8.

2) New Zealand's exit in group stage

The most consistent team of World Cups, New Zealand have almost every-time made it to the semi-finals of the ICC events. Just like previous tournaments, it was expected that they'll easily make it to the Super 8, in a group that had West Indies and Afghanistan. However, to everyone's surprise, both Windies and Afghanistan blew them away as the Kane Williamson led side crashed out of the group stage itself.

The Kiwis looked clueless throughout the tournament, and had a disappointing campaign which led to their skipper, Williamson, relinquished the white-ball captaincy.

1) The entire USA leg of the T20 WC

When ICC announced that USA will be the co-host of the T20 World Cup alongside West Indies, doubts creeped in everyone's mind, as to whether USA is the right nation to host the tournament or not.

Those doubts intensified when matches taking place, especially at the Nassau County Stadium witnessed string of low-scores. The ball hardly came onto the bat, the outfield came under scrutiny, and the stadium was eventually demolished once the USA leg ended.

Moreover, the rain in Florida further put ICC under the scanner, as several matches were washed out, which affected the outcome of the group stage matches.
