If reports are to be believed, Gautam Gambhir is all set to become India's next head coach now that Rahul Dravid has officially retired after India's big T20 World Cup triumph against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.

As Hardik Pandya bowled the nerve-wracking final over of the game, all hearts sang just one song: India, India!! The jubilation and pride as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli clinched the trophy was nothing short of absolute bliss.

While congratulating the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, a respected figure in Indian cricket, lavished praise on both players and discussed their future in different game formats.

“They have retired with the World Cup win, and probably better than any script that was written. Both players are great. They have done a lot for Indian cricket, and congratulate them and wish them all the best,” Gambhir told PTI videos.

“But they are going to play two more formats – Test cricket and ODI cricket. I am sure they are going to keep contributing to the country and the team,” said the former opener.

Not just Gambhir but also Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praises on Kohli and recollected some of the best T20I innings by the star batter.

“Virat Kohli has played his last T20 game, and it has been a stellar career. The knocks I wanted to remember are: the one against Australia in the quarterfinals and against SA in the 2014 T20 WC semifinals. The man is actually a myth."

Why I am not paying a big tribute to him because he has a long career ahead in two other formats. He has been playing well,” said Ashwin in his YouTube channel.

India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy after 17 whole years under the brilliance of Rohit Sharma. During the Man of the Match award, Virat Kohli announced that he would be retiring from T20Is, and following this, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also told during the post-match press conference that he would too be retiring from T20Is.
