India's star batter, Shubman Gill, made headlines on the field during the first Test against Bangladesh at Chepauk, Chennai. While the Indian bowlers dominated the match, especially Ravichandran Ashwin, who took six wickets on Day 4. He grabbed attention with a playful jibe aimed at fast bowler Mohammed Siraj.

In Bangladesh's second innings, an amusing moment involving Shubman Gill and Siraj was caught on the stump mic. As Gill positioned himself at short leg ahead of the third ball of the 22nd over, he shouted, "Mohammed Siraj official hi official ID hai, baaki sab fake hain" (This is Mohammed Siraj’s official ID; the rest are fake). 

This meme is an old video clip of Siraj in which the fast bowler informed fans about his official Instagram account while dismissing fake profiles. The video went viral in no time among the fans, and Gill didn't miss an opportunity to tease Siraj during the match, leaving everyone in splits.

Gill's Masterclass Century Lifts India in Second Innings

Shubman Gill's on-field performance was just as remarkable. After falling for a duck in the first innings, he made a strong comeback in the second innings with a masterful century. His unbeaten knock of 119 off 176 balls, studded with 10 fours and 4 sixes, was crucial to set a formidable target of 515 runs for Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, there were a few question marks on Gill's form in the build-up to the series and a failure in the first innings further invited criticism. However, the batter stayed calm and scored a magnificent century.

India wrapped up the first Test on Day 4 with a commanding win, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The second Test will be held at Green Park in Kanpur on September 27, 2024, where India will look to seal the series.
