Pakistan teenager Mohammad Sayyam shot himself up to global prominence with a couple of impressive outings for the Pakistan Under-19 team in the 2025 Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup in the UAE. Aged 17, the youngster started off his competitive career with a match-winning three-wicket haul against Malaysia Under-19.

In his very next game, Mohammad Sayyam bested India’s blistering young opener and IPL cult hero Vaibhav Suryavanshi with the new ball, merely days after the teenage batting sensation had belted an electric 171 off 95 balls in Dubai against the tournament hosts.

Moments that announced Mohammad Sayyam on the global stage

From the Lower Dir District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province that has birthed Pakistan’s modern-day greats like Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman; Mohammad Sayyam was born on March 15 back in 2008.

The prodigious left-arm quick started off his competitive career in junior cricket for the Peshawar Region Under-16 team. The cricketer also made it to the Peshawar Region Under-19 team following his impressive run with the ball. During the National Men’s U19 Cup 2025-26, he picked up 14 wickets at an exceptional average of 15.43 to lead the wicket-taking charts of the competition.

Grabbing headlines with his pace and his penchant of picking up wickets, Mohammad Sayyam graduated to the ranks of the Pakistan Under-19 team, and was selected to tour UAE in December 2025 for the 2025 Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup.

After dismantling Malaysia Under-19 in his first national U19 game, Sayyam removed two of India’s talented young IPL stars within a single spell in match number five of the competition. For starters, the speedster had Rajasthan Royals’ explosive opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi caught-and-bowled for just 5 off six balls.

Roughly 30 minutes later, Mohammad Sayyam also had India Under-19 captain and CSK opener Ayush Mhatre nicking behind towards the wicketkeeper to douse the ‘Boys in Blue’ earlier in the high-profile game.

Aged just 17 years and 274 days by the time of his breakthrough opening spell, Mohammad Sayyam surely stamped his arrival as Pakistan’s next fast-bowling prospect to watch.
