India’s 14-year-old batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, failed to live up to expectations and was dismissed for just five runs against Pakistan in their ACC U19 Asia Cup Group A match in Dubai on Sunday (December 14, 2025).

The high-voltage encounter began after a one-hour rain delay, which forced officials to reduce the match to a 49-overs-per-side contest. Pakistan captain Farhan Yousaf won the toss and chose to bowl first. The toss itself drew attention as the two captains did not shake hands.

All eyes were on Suryavanshi, who had stunned the cricketing world in India’s previous match by smashing 171 runs off 95 balls against UAE. He had reached his century in just 56 balls and went on to set a Youth ODI world record for the most sixes in an innings.

Soft dismissal ends Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stay vs PAK

Vaibhav Suryavanshi survived a nervous moment on the very first ball of his innings. Pakistan appealed aggressively, prompting a warning from the umpire. However, the young opener could not build on that escape. In the sixth over, Pakistan bowler Mohammad Seyam produced a clever slower delivery.

The ball held up on the pitch, and Suryavanshi, trying to play an attacking shot, mistimed it straight back to the bowler. He took a simple return catch to claim a crucial wicket.

It was a moment of redemption the bowler, who had conceded 15 runs in his first over and had dropped Suryavanshi earlier. The dismissal sparked loud celebrations from the Pakistan players as they removed India’s most dangerous batter early.

At the time of the wicket, India are 67/1 after eight overs, with captain Ayush Mhatre and Allan George at the crease. Mhatre has already made 37 runs in 21 balls in his usual confident and aggressive way. India has recovered from the early setback after Vaibhav Suryavanshi's wicket.

The duo on the crease has already established a strong partnership and has made 43 runs in 34 balls. The 'Men in Blue' will want this partnership to build stronger as the match progresses.
