Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal sent a resounding message to the selectors with a breathtaking century against Haryana in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, played at DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, December 14.

The left-handed opener, overlooked in India’s T20I squad for over a year, made a spectacular return for Mumbai with a 48-ball ton, including 16 fours and a six, guiding his side to a thrilling 235-run chase.

Notably, this knock marked Jaiswal’s fourth T20 century and his first for Mumbai in the SMAT. It also helped Mumbai achieve the second-highest successful chase in the tournament’s history, following Jharkhand’s 236-run pursuit against Punjab at the same venue just a day earlier.

Opening the innings in the Super League stage clash, Jaiswal dominated from the outset. He tore into Haryana’s pace attack, notably hitting Anshul Kamboj for 34 runs off 13 deliveries and Sumit Kumar for 25 runs from 13 balls.

Jaiswal's calculated aggression and precise stroke play ensured that Mumbai remained in complete control throughout the chase.

However, the 23-year-old was eventually dismissed for 101 in the 18th over, with Mumbai needing just seven more runs to seal victory. The team wrapped up a four-wicket win with 15 balls to spare, thanks largely to Sarfaraz Khan and Jaiswal’s fireworks at the top.

Before this innings, Jaiswal had already made his mark in professional T20 cricket with three centuries, one for India against Nepal and two for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

However, this innings was especially significant, coming after he had been out of India’s T20I framework despite being part of the World Cup-winning squad.
