Shubman Gill's WTC 2023 Final Dismissal Resurfaces As He Leaves The Ball To Get Castled In Duleep Trophy

India's young batting sensation Shubman Gill had a torrid time with the bat, as ace Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini dismissed him cheaply in the ongoing Duleep Trophy clash between India A and India B. Opening the batting for India A, Gill managed only 25 runs before Saini cleaned him up with a lethal nip-backer.

Known for his scintillating stroke-play, Gill was expected to emerge as India A's wrecker-in-chief with the bat in this match. However, the Punjab batter failed to live up to his potential, losing his wicket in the fourteenth over of India A's first innings.

It was an in-seamer from Saini, as Gill decided to leave the ball without covering his off stump. He didn't align himself with the line of the delivery, as the ball came back into him to disturb the furniture.

His dismissal off Saini's bowling highlighted his proneness to incoming deliveries, which have haunted him in the past. James Anderson exploited him on home soil before Scott Boland got the better of him using the same technique in the all-important World Test Championship final last year.

How did Scott Boland trap Shubman Gill in WTC 2023 final?

After posting a mammoth 469-run total in their first innings, Australia had a dream start with the ball in the WTC 2023 final, dismissing Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in quick succession. While Pat Cummins trapped Rohit plumb in front of the stumps, Gill was castled by Scott Boland, who played a pivotal role for his side in the match.

The speedster from Melbourne set up Gill nicely with full-length balls before bringing one back into him from the fourth stump line. As the Indian batter opted to leave the ball, it uprooted his off stump, dismissing him for thirteen runs.

Gill's frequent dismissals off the nip-backers highlight the technical flaws in his game, as he is not getting close to the line of the delivery. Given his importance for the Indian Test team, the number three batter must resolve the grey areas before it's too late.
