Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest batter to have played the game. He is the highest run-getter in international cricket and bagged numerous accolades unrivalled by anyone.

However, it was not so easy for the Master Blaster to make a name for himself. He played in an era when there was only one ball and reverse-swing was at his peak. The former India captain had to deal with the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, in the 1990s, and early 2000s, followed James Anderson and Dale Steyn towards the latter half of his career.

The batting adjustments which made Tendulkar the best in the world

To deal with so many great bowlers who were a master of reverse-swing, Tendulkar had to make adjustments to his batting and he spoke in length about the slight changes which helped him dominate the bowlers.

“During my playing days, I used to tape the ball up from one side. In season (leather) balls, we look for the shiny and the rough side and in the tennis ball, we would apply tape on one side and I used to practice reverse swing to face it in international cricket,” Tendulkar stated.

The India legend finished his career with 100 international centuries, a record, which is nearly impossible to break. Having made his debut for India in 1989, Tendulkar played for 24 years, and also became a World Champion in 2011.
