The United States are playing against Canada in the 23rd game of the CWC League II 2023-27. This match is taking place at the Hazelaarweg in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Canada won the toss ahead of the game and opted to field first. Steven Taylor and Smit Patel opened the innings for the US and set the tone for the team with a 125-run partnership. While Steven Taylor scored 46 runs off 77 balls, Patel played a well composed knock of 70 runs from 84 balls.

Notably, Smit Patel was the second wicket to fall for The US, when the score of the team was 130. Interestingly, Patel was part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2012 under the leadership Unmukt Chand.  The duo of Chand (111* off 130 balls) and Patel (62* off 84 balls) stitched a partnership of 130 unbeaten runs in the final of the tournament to win India the trophy.

Smith Patel retired from all forms of cricket under BCCI and moved to the US to be eligible to play for the nation in 2021. The journey of Patel has been similar to his U-19 captain, Unmukt Chand. There has also been some more names like Saurabh Netravalkar and Harmeet Singh who have also played for India in U-19 and moved to the USA later.

Though Chand made his move to the US earlier than Smit Patel, the later has got his international break ahead of Chand. He has already played three ODIs for the US and has scored two half-centuries in them.

Smit Patel part of The USA ODI record

The partnership of 125 between Steven Taylor and Smit Patel stands as the highest opening partnership in ODIs for the USA. Previously, this record was between Steven Taylor and Sushant Modani in 2021 vs Papua New Guinea.

Coming back to the match, at the time of writing, The USA are stationed at 250/4 in 47 overs.
