Yashasvi Jaiswal's ascent from selling 'panipuri' to making a historic debut in cricket indeed captures the essence of a true underdog story. His remarkable journey exemplifies perseverance, talent, and the ability to overcome adversity.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's achievement was indeed remarkable, not only did he score a century on his Test debut, but he also became the first Indian opener to achieve this feat on overseas soil. Before Jaiswal, many greats came and left, but the 21-year-old became the first-ever opener to achieve the illustrious feat on the second day of the first Test between India and West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica in 2023.

When Yashasvi broke a unique record in his debut series

Opening the batting, he displayed remarkable skill, composure, and temperament throughout his innings, ultimately scoring a brilliant 171, a record breaking knock vs West Indies.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the batter from Mumbai, made history by becoming the 17th Indian player to score a century on his Test debut, and notably, he is the third designated opener to achieve this feat. This achievement breaks a 91-year record that no Indian had managed to achieve before him.

Prior to Yashasvi Jaiswal's achievement, both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw had started their Test careers with centuries as well in Mohali and Rajkot respectively. These centuries were scored in India, making Yashasvi Jaiswal's century on overseas soil particularly notable.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's grand century celebration

Yashasvi Jaiswal's celebration to break this 91-year record century was marked by exuberance and joy. After reaching the milestone, he took off his helmet, jumped in the air, and let out a loud cry, showcasing his elation and accomplishment. The sight of his beaming smile was met with a standing ovation from his teammates in the Indian dressing room.

Jaiswal then made a beeline towards the captain and non-striker, Rohit Sharma, who himself sported a wide grin. Rohit had played a crucial role in the partnership with Jaiswal. In response to West Indies's total of 150, the duo formed the highest opening stand by an Indian pair in the Caribbean islands, asserting their dominance over the opposition and putting them in a commanding position.

He continued his dream run in the ongoing Test match against England, slamming his maiden double century.
