Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to roll out “good Test wickets”. A former BCCI President himself, Ganguly urged the same after Indian paceman Jasprit Bumrah tore through England’s batting line-up on Day 2 of the Vizag Test.

The 51-year-old claimed that with the likes of Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar at disposal, the Indian team does not require any rank-turners in the first place.

Jasprit Bumrah dismantled England’s batting line-up with a sizzling six-wicket haul on Day 2 of the second Test match at Vizag. The Indian speedster shattered Ollie Pope’s stumps and also dismissed Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in quick succession before mopping up the English tail.

After Bumrah’s milestone spell, former Indian captain and ex-BCCI President Sourav Ganguly took to his social media accounts and praised the seasoned fast bowler for his match-defining spell. Ganguly also questioned BCCI’s tactics of employing turning surfaces for Test matches in India, and urged the board to churn out “good wickets” instead.

The 51-year-old claimed that quality Indian spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel can pick up 20 wickets on any surface.

Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, his teammate Kuldeep Yadav also snapped three key wickets as the Englishmen folded up for just 253 in their first innings.

Later in the day, Team India openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 28 runs to their 143-run advantage as the hosts strengthened their grip over the tourists by stumps on Day 2.
