Taskin Ahmed, one of Bangladesh's prominent fast bowlers, has expressed his desire to step away from Test cricket and concentrate solely on limited-overs formats.

Taskin Ahmed's decision to retire from Test cricket stems from recurring injury issues, particularly a shoulder injury he sustained during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. This injury significantly impacted his ability to participate in Test matches and may have influenced his decision to focus solely on limited-overs cricket.

Injuries affected Taskin's career

Taskin Ahmed's retirement from Test cricket marks the end of his stint in the longest format of the game, during which he represented Bangladesh in 13 Tests, claiming 30 wickets at an economy of 3.76. Taskin Ahmed's last Test match appearance came against Afghanistan in June 2023, where he picked up four wickets in the second innings.

His recent comeback in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Durdanto Dhaka clearly states that he is still keen to contribute to the sport in shorter formats despite his decision to step away from Tests.

BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed the development on Saturday, 3 February 2024. Jalal stated that the fast bowler had sent in an letter with a request and that would be looked at after the conclusion of the Bangladesh Premier League.

"He( Taskin) had sent a letter stating that he does not want to play longer-version cricket. After the game [of the ongoing BPL] is over we will sit with him in this regard. Let the coach [head coach Chandika Hathurusingha] come and we need to talk with him as well."

Bangladesh are scheduled to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka at home as part of the ongoing 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, and the Tigers will miss Taskin's services if he decides not to play the longest format of the game.
