'I Just Find It Baffling'- Tom Moody On LSG's Decision To Bench Quinton de Kock Against MI

Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody has termed Lucknow SupernGiants' decision to bench South African wicketkeeper-opener Quinton de Kock as 'baffling'.

LSG played a punt in the Eliminator clash against the Mumbai Indians as they benched the in-form De Kock and used Kyle Mayers as the Impact substitute.

De Kock showed brilliant form in whatever chances he got this season. In 4 games, the dynamic opener racked up 140 runs @ 35.75/140.2 with 1 50+ score.

Speaking to ESPNCrcinfo after LSG'S crushing defeat to MI, Moody expressed his astonishment at the decision, stating that a big match player like QDK should have been given a chance regardless of what he has done previously in Chennai.

"Big game, big player. Regardless of what someone has done short-term in Chennai, I would have rather looked at the sample size of 10 years for what he has done in international cricket and IPL cricket against the opponent he is playing." said Tom Moody.

"I just find it baffling that decision. Ultimately, it was extremely costly as that calm mind out in the middle would have been welcomed. Plus, Nicholas Pooran behind the stumps was sloppy. Quinton de Kock is a far more accomplished keeper than Pooran, who has been fielding for the whole tournament," he added.

Meanwhile, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya defended the move by stating that the reason for choosing Mayers over De Kock was due to the formers' superior record at Chepauk.

"It's always a tough decision to drop Quinton, he is a world-class batter, Kyle had a good record here so we thought of playing him for today.'' said Krunal.

As it turned out, neither Mayers (18 off 13) nor Nicholas Pooran (0 off 1) could do anything on Wednesday, as Mi romped home by 81 runs.
