Pakistan cricket has gone through a bit of turmoil in 2025, with their performance dipping across formats. The team failed in the Champions Trophy 2025 and got knocked out in the group stage. Moreover, for the Asia Cup 2025, the team management decided to remove Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from their squad.
This decision didn’t come as a surprise since the two batters had poor numbers in T20I cricket, and Pakistan wanted to move on from them. Ever since Pakistan’s Champions Trophy showing, both Babar and Rizwan have not played a single T20I game, and in this article, we look at how the new-look Pakistan side has performed without them in T20Is.
Pakistan tour of New Zealand
The first assignment without Babar and Rizwan was the tour of New Zealand for a young Pakistan side, and they failed to live up to the hype. In tricky New Zealand conditions, Pakistan batters crumbled under pressure, and they lost the T20Is, 1-4. The Men in Green only managed to win a single game where Hasan Nawaz scored a scintillating ton.
The series showcased that Pakistan required a bit of experience in the team, especially in away conditions.
Bangladesh tour of Pakistan
Following a crushing defeat vs New Zealand, Pakistan hosted Bangladesh for a T20I series and the Men in Green thrashed their neighbours, Bangladesh in a one-sided series.
The Pakistan side, led by Agha Salman, showcased their class and clean-swept the Tigers to win the series, 3-0.
Pakistan tour of Bangladesh
Following a successful home series, it was time for the away fixture as Pakistan toured Bangladesh for a 3-match T20I series. The visitors were the favourites despite no Babar-Rizwan in the squad, but the tables turned as the Tigers took their revenge by winning the first two matches.
Pakistan batters struggled on turning tracks, and they lost the series, 1-2, as Bangladesh lost the series finale. This series showed that they needed a bit of experience in tricky conditions.
Pakistan tour of West Indies
After being outplayed by the Bangladesh side, Pakistan travelled to the Caribbean Island to take on the West Indies. The Men in Green quickly learned from their past mistakes and on sluggish wickets, they pushed the hosts on the back foot and won the series, 2-1.
Pakistan won the first match, and they lost the second T20I. The visitors then came back strongly to win the series finale.
UAE Tri-nation series
In familiar UAE conditions, Pakistan dominated the tri-series tournament featuring the UAE and Afghanistan. The side lost just one match out of four and won the final by defeating Afghanistan in a one-sided match. However, despite a tournament win, the team batters struggled for runs, and once again, the Babar-Rizwan debate came up.
