Bangladesh opener and current T20I skipper Litton Das is set to immortalise his legacy in the T20I format. Das is just a few runs away from surpassing Shakib Al Hasan in the all-time scoring list ahead of the Asia Cup game against Sri Lanka.

In Bangladesh’s first Asia Cup 2025 match against Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Litton moved past Mahmudullah Riyad to become the second-highest run-getter in T20Is for Bangladesh.

In a 144-run chase, the skipper scored 59 runs off 39 balls with 6 fours, a six and a 151.29 strike rate.

History Awaits Litton Das Ahead Of Sri Lanka Clash

That being said, Litton Das’ dream run could soon make him immortal in Bangladesh’s T20I cricket history. He will enter the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 game against Sri Lanka with 2496 runs in 111 T20I matches.

Now, he is just 56 runs away from surpassing Shakib Al Hasan as Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in the T20I format. What is more astounding about Litton's achievement is how fast he has achieved the milestone compared to his seniors.

Most Runs For Bangladesh in T20Is:

Players
Runs

Shakib Al Hasan2551127
Litton Das2496109
Mahmudullah Riyad2444130

While Shakib and Riyad needed over 125 matches to build their tallies, Litton has done it in a mere 111 games. His strike rate of 126.95 also speaks about his aggressive game, and he is now one of the most effective Bangladesh batters in the shortest form of the game.

For Bangladesh, this is a huge boost. Litton’s form at the top ensures that the Tigers start strong, and his leadership adds extra confidence to the squad.

If he continues scoring runs like this, Litton Das could soon become the first Bangladeshi to cross 3,000 T20I runs, a feat that once seemed impossible.

Litton’s Sublime Form Might Guide Him To Glory

While scoring 56 runs in a T20I encounter is significant, Litton Das is someone who can achieve it against Sri Lanka on September 13. Das has been in remarkable form, with 476 runs in 2025 alone. In 16 innings played this year, the skipper has hammered 4 fifties with 31 fours and 20 sixes.

Not only that, but in his last 4 T20I appearances, Litton Das has scored 59, 73, 18*, and 54*. Even against Sri Lanka, the opener has 209 runs with a half-century in 8 T20I innings.

Hence, September 13 is most likely to be a historic day in Das’ career as he eyes a glorious record previously held by veteran star Shakib Al Hasan.
