Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh will reportedly be nominated by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for the upcoming annual general body meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). As many as five crucial office-bearers for the board are scheduled to be elected in the meeting.

Apart from Harbhajan, former Indian captain and his ex-national teammate Sourav Ganguly has also been nominated, albeit by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), i.e., the cricket board of his parent state.

Harbhajan Singh Nominated As PCA’s Representative

The annual general body meeting of the BCCI is scheduled to be held on September 28 later this month. As reported by the Indian Express, former cricketers and teammates Harbhajan Singh and Sourav Ganguly will reportedly be attending the meeting as representatives of the PCA and the CAB, respectively.

The primary agenda of the BCCI meeting is the election and the induction of several BCCI positions like the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and the Treasurer. The position of BCCI presidency has remained vacant ever since former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny stepped down from the role citing the board’s age mandate.

Before Binny, it was Sourav Ganguly himself who held the role between October 2019 and October 2022. Harbhajan Singh, on the other hand, is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha and is part of the political party, Aam Aadmi Party.

As per BCCI’s regulations, the deadline for all state boards to file applications of nominating their representatives is September 12. The election officer has set a window of September 20 and September 21 for filing a nomination application. While the elections will be held on September 28, the candidates can withdraw their names five days in advance, i.e., by September 23.
