Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are two of the fiercest rivals in the Indian Premier League. There have been many heated moments between the two teams in the last few years, and fans from both sides have not backed down from mocking and criticising their opponents.

Also, the players from both sides, like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jitesh Sharma, have taken subtle digs in the past. However, Dinesh Karthik, in a recent interview on India Today Conclave, chose CSK over RCB as a team he would like to play for if he comes out of retirement.

Dinesh Karthik Makes Bold Choice Despite RCB Affinity

The decision has surprised quite a few fans, as Dinesh Karthik is currently the mentor and batting coach of RCB. He played a big role in planning their squad for IPL 2025, which helped them lift their maiden trophy in the league. Also, the cricketer was an important figure in the RCB unit during his playing days and performed the finisher role to perfection.

The wicketkeeper batter, though, despite this special association with RCB, decided to go with rivals CSK. The reason he mentioned in the interview was that he would go with the Yellove Army because he has not played for them, and he still regrets not playing for CSK in his IPL career.

RCB Mentor Expresses Love For His Childhood Home

The real reason for Dinesh Karthik's love for CSK, despite his affinity with RCB, is that he is from Tamil Nadu and was born in Chennai. He played all his domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu, and as a Chennai boy, he shares a deep connection with the city. Thus, he would have hoped to play for the home franchise, the Chennai Super Kings, at some point in his IPL career, but it never happened for him.

Therefore, with his career over now, his love for the city has reflected in his statement on the Chennai Super Kings. It is in no way a reflection of his lack of loyalty to RCB, but is just a Chennai boy wanting to play for his home city franchise.
