The fixture between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) may have been long over. But speculations about Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir's ugly on-field altercation continue to persist even to this date.

It all started unfolding in the 17th over of the LSG chase when the Afghanistan pacer Naveen Ul Haq walked into bat. Kohli's RCB were very pumped up as they were beginning to realise that an imminent victory awaited them on their opponent's turf. Some words were exchanged between the two and Kohli made a vulgar gesture by pointing his shoe to Naveen.

The feud did not die there. Naveen and Kohli once again got engulfed in a very heated confrontation during the customary handshake session. This time around, LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir barged into the scene and escalated the conflict to a whole new level which attracted a whopping fine of 100% of their match fees.

Cricketer turned commentator, Ravi Shastri shared his views on the ugly incident. He stressed that the players need to be mindful of their actions and behave more responsibly in the presence of multiple high-resolution cameras.

He further opined that the broadcasters did the right thing by pointing their cameras at the two which will lead the players to realize their mistakes and keep their behaviour under check due to live telecast.

“By seeing that, both the players (Kohli & Gambhir) will behave differently the next time. Because they will know there is a camera on them all the time. Then they will do the right thing for the massive audience that is watching. Kids, parents, friends. You then know what is the line. Have I used abusive language? Was my body language not right? Was that in the spirit of the game? Did I come across as a bad loser? All these things immediately come to the fore once you watch that footage and then you learn. If you don’t learn then another fine will be around the corner or a suspension,” Shastri opined.

The 60-year-old called for stricter punishment from the governing body should the two engage in a subsequent spat. LSG and RCB are yet to cement their positions in the playoff race and in order to do so, LSG will have to beat KKR in their next match while RCB will have to beat SRH and GT in their remaining two matches.
