Punjab Kings’ high-profile IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off in Dharamsala. The Rajasthan Royals franchise has named a couple of South African cricketers as injury replacements for Indian stars. In other news, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur has received a security threat amidst the 2025 season.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, May 8.

Punjab Kings’ Match Against Capitals Called Off

The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off after just 10 overs worth of play owing to a “floodlight failure”, as confirmed by the BCCI and the IPL officials. Punjab Kings batted first and tonked 122 runs in just 10 overs, courtesy of sparkling half-centuries from opening batters Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. While Arya slapped 70 runs from just 34 balls before falling to T Natarajan, Prabhsimran compiled an unbeaten 50* off 28 deliveries with seven elegant boundaries.

Burger Replaces Sandeep Sharma At RR

Rajasthan Royals franchise has roped in South African fast bowler Nandre Burger as an injury replacement for Sandeep Sharma. The Indian speedster sustained a finger injury, prompting him to be ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Sandeep Sharma has already played 10 matches this year, but has managed to pick just nine wickets at an expensive average of over 40. Nandre Burger, on the other hand, was part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise last year before going unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius Joins RR In Place Of Nitish Rana

In another injury change, young South African batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius has been drafted in to the Rajasthan Royals set up for the IPL 2025 season. The youngster will be replacing blistering Indian batter Nitish Rana, who has been ruled out due to a calf injury. It is worth noting that Pretorius also played 12 matches for the Paarl Royals franchise earlier this year during the SA20 2025 season, tallying 397 runs at a staggering strike rate of 166.80, maintaining a prolific average of 33.08 in the process.

Sawai Mansingh Stadium Faces Bomb Threat In IPL 2025

The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur has been reportedly hit with a bomb threat amidst the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Notably, the threat occurred shortly after the Indian government and Indian Army launched air strikes on the terrorist hubs in Pakistan under the guise of "Operation Sindoor".

The iconic Jaipur venue is slated to host one more match this season, in the form of Rajasthan Royals’ final home fixture against Punjab Kings on Friday, May 16.

Virat Kohli Wishes Speedy Recovery To Padikkal

Virat Kohli, on behalf of the entire RCB franchise, wished injured Devdutt Padikkal a speedy recovery. In a video shared by RCB on their social media platforms, Kohli expressed his admirations towards Padikkal for his contributions this IPL 2025 season. The legendary Indian batter stated that Padikkal played a crucial role in helping RCB qualify for the playoffs.

Compatible to Kohli’s claims, Padikkal scored 247 runs from 10 innings at a strike rate of over 150. His injury prompted the RCB management to rope in Mayank Agarwal as a replacement.
