Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Rinku Singh has established himself as a prolific finisher in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, having showcased an impressive range of skills and a commendable ability to remain composed under pressure.

The 25-year-old left-hander has been a consistent performer for KKR, registering 337 runs in 11 matches, with a remarkable strike rate of over 150. His formidable batting record includes a tally of 21 sixes and an equal number of boundaries which highlights his potential as a match-winner.

Rinku's meteoric rise to prominence has been attributed to his recent performances, notably his breathtaking display of power hitting against Gujarat Titans, where he smashed five consecutive sixes in the final over off the bowling of Yash Dayal to snatch a stunning victory for his team. Since then, the young batter has displayed remarkable consistency and composure, performing consistently in the role of a finisher.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rinku revealed that he had the opportunity to interact with former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, during the Chennai Super Kings' visit to Kolkata in April.

Seeking to learn from one of the game's greatest finishers, Rinku asked Dhoni for tips on improving his batting. The legendary finisher advised him not to overthink while batting and instead wait for the ball and play accordingly.

"He's the world's best finisher I just asked 'Bhaiya' what else I could do while I'm going to bat. He just told me don't think much, just wait for the ball and play according to it,” said Rinku.

The young southpaw further credited his newfound success to his ability to keep things simple while batting. While he acknowledged that batting 360 degrees had its advantages, he prefers to play straightforward shots based on the ball and the situation. He eschews flamboyance in his batting and focuses on playing a simple game that relies on timing and technique.

"I want to play simple shots. I don't want to play extravagant shots. I play according to balls and as per the situation. All players work on their own shots, and I try to be very simple," added the Aligarh Born cricketer.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh-based batter remains optimistic about KKR's chances of qualifying for the playoffs, despite their current position at the sixth spot with ten points in the mid-table race.
