'I Think He Just Needs to ...": Shaun Pollock's Advice to Hardik Pandya

Ever since shifting base from Mumbai Indians to Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya's stock has risen, and the all-rounder is now the front-runner to take over India's T20I captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Pandya, who is defending his Indian Premier League (IPL) title this season, has in glimpses shown his batting prowess, scoring 213 runs in eight matches.

However, in the Titans' last match against Delhi Capitals, Pandya failed to get his team over the line, despite being unbeaten on 59. Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock has suggested the GT skipper to-bat up the order, as seen in IPL 2022.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former Mumbai Indians player advised Pandya to work on his changing his gears while in the middle, while also working on his running between the wickets.

Here's what Pollock said

"I don't think in his [Hardik Pandya's] role of the Gujarat Titans he needs to go down. If he was at Mumbai, he would probably still do it because of the firepower they have. I saw some good performances from him last year. I think he maybe just needs to change gears at different times. I don't have an issue with him coming up higher. He is a class player and has got the ability to strike it really well."

With six wins and three losses, Gujarat Titans are leading the IPL 2023 points table. Pandya's next assignment will be up against the Rajasthan Royals this evening at Jaipur.

In their earlier encounter this season, the Royals claimed a last-over win at Ahmedabad against Gujarat, thanks to a Shimron Hetmyer special.
