Former South African and RCB legend, AB de Villiers was recently inducted into the IPL team's 'Hall of Fame' alongside his former teammate, Chris Gayle, at the "Unbox Event" held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

De Villiers represented the Bangalore franchise for 10 seasons, starting in 2011. Over the course of the decade, the legendary Proteas cricketer managed to build a cult following for himself pan India, but especially in Bangalore, courtesy of his 360-degree strokeplay, clutch knocks under extreme pressure, and not to forget, his superhuman fielding efforts.

ABD represented the Royal Challengers in 157 matches, in which he hammered 4522 runs at impressive rates of 41.10 & 158.33 with 39 fifty-plus scores, including two hundreds.

The Proteas cricketer penned his emotions with a beautiful note on his Instagram account, where he thanked all the fans, his former teammates, especially Virat Kohli, and the RCB management for their support throughout his journey.

Here's what ABD wrote:

"I don’t know where to start really.. So March 26th 2023 Chris and I were inducted into the RCB hall of fame and our jersey numbers retired forever," read the note shared by De Villiers on social media.

"Tears filled my eyes when I stepped on to the balcony of our dressing room. My heart blossomed as my wife, two boys and little girl walked up the stairs to enter our RCB den, stairs that I have walked up so many times with butterflies fluttering in my stomach. It felt weird to walk up there in a different state of mind," read the note further.

"Thank you teammates, especially Virat, thank you RCB, thank you Bengaluru," ABD concluded.

It was quite an emotional day for De Villiers as the visits to the ground and the dressing room amid raucous chants from his fanatic fans, evoked memories of the days and years he has spent in India over the course of the last two decades.

De Villiers called time on his decorated IPL career in 2021.
