India have been traditionally a country of batting superstars. Still, in recent times, India have developed a rich battery of pacers, and without a doubt, the most impressive and the leader of the pack is Jasprit Bumrah

The pacer has made a mark in world cricket with his stellar performances across formats in international cricket and for Mumbai Indians and has played a key role in the success of both teams.

However, a back injury has kept him out of action since September 2022, and he now faces a race against time to get match-fit for the all-important World Cup 2023, to be played in October-November in India.

Despite being out of action for such a long time, many still think that he will be India's key weapon in the World Cup and joining that list now is Dilhara Fernando, the Lankan speedster who also played for Mumbai Indians in the past.

In an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com, Dilhara Fernando says that Bumrah will be a crucial player for India in the World Cup. He also adds that Bumrah has played a significant role for India in the last five years and feels that Rohit would need Bumrah in the World Cup.

"Bumrah is just amazing. If you look at India's performance in the last 5 years, Bumrah has played a big role. He has been leading the pace attack very well. He is a game-changer. I am not sure about his injury updates, but he will be a key player for India in the World Cup. India and Rohit will need him in the World Cup,"

He also reckons that India are top contenders to win the World Cup. He also states that Bumrah is a nightmare for the opposition in Indian conditions and has a good camaraderie with Rohit, as both have played together for India and in the MI setup.

"Bumrah in Indian conditions is at another level. He is a nightmare for the opposition. India's pace attack looks good, and India are top contenders at the World Cup. Bumrah and Rohit know each other closely and have a good camaraderie, so Rohit would want Bumrah badly in the World Cup."

Jasprit Bumrah has recently undergone back surgery in New Zealand and is set to miss IPL 2023. BCCI is hoping that the pacer will resume training and bowling in August and would return to his best when the World Cup starts in October.
