The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has hired Monty Desai as the head coach of the Nepal men's national cricket team.

Desai has a diverse coaching background, having worked with national teams like West Indies, Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada.

He was also associated with regional teams in India, as well as IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions.

"The decision of the CAN to appoint Desai as the head coach has been approved by the National Sports Council," a member of the CAN told Nepal Live Today.

The Cricket Association of Nepal opened the vacancy in January after Manoj Prabhakar stepped down from the role on December 15.

However, the selection of the head coach for CAN was delayed for nearly a month due to the revised government regulations regarding foreign involvement in sports events.

Desai's first assignment will be a Tri-series involving Namibia and Scotland under the ICC World Cup Cricket League 2, set to commence on February 14 in Kathmandu.
