Steve Smith and Beth Mooney define the word consistency. 2022 was yet another year when the two champion players dominated on the field and produced several match-winning innings.

As a result, both the batters were honoured by Cricket Australia, with Cricketers of the Year Award for 2022.

Smith was awarded the men's cricket team's highest individual honour at the CA Awards on Monday. He gained 171 votes, ahead of Travis Head, who had 144 votes, and David Warner with 141.

Smith, 33, became only the third Australian cricketer after Ricky Ponting (2004, 06, 07, 09), and Michael Clarke (2005, 09, 12, 13) to have won the award four times. Previously he achieved this feat in 2015, 18, and 21).

In 11 Test matches in 2022, Smith scored 876 runs, at an average of 58.40, with 2 centuries to his name. The right-handed batter had a prolific ODI year as well, churning out 539 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 67.37.

Mooney soars high

Arguably the world's best batter at the moment, Beth Mooney is a dominant force across all-formats. She also bagged the Women's ODI Player of the Year Award at the ceremony and won the contest by a country mile.

Mooney slammed 1109 runs, at an average of 69.31, and was well ahead of Meg Lanning - 991 runs, and Alyssa Healy 771 runs.

The 29-year-old was also the leading run-getter for Australia in the T20Is in 2022. She plucked out 449 runs, and struck at 134.
