The 2022 County Championship resumed on Monday, September 26 with its final set of matches from Division Two. After the opening day of action, here is a look at the highlights from the four Division Two fixtures played across England.


Worcestershire vs Middlesex

Hosts Worcestershire lost eight wickets for just 167 from the 68.5 overs bowled on Day 1. None of their batters reached a half-century while Middlesex’ Toby Roland-Jones claimed three wickets that fell on the day.

Tim Murtaugh and Ryan Higgins also lent a helping hand to Jones by picking two wickets each.

Sussex vs Glamorgan

Glamorgan batted throughout the 41.2 overs bowled on Day 1 to reach 221-3 at a breakneck pace. Their Indian import Shubman Gill struck 91 unbeaten runs off just 102 balls and will resume Day 2 with Billy Root (17*).

Nottinghamshire vs Durham

Hosts Nottinghamshire flayed the Durham attack throughout the entirety of Day 1, reaching 276-2 from just 84.3 overs of action. Haseeb Hameed and Matthew Montgomery struck identical hundreds, with the latter of the two still unbeaten at the crease on 101.

Derbyshire shot out the visiting Leicestershire for just 249 within 75 overs of the opening day in Derby. Sam Conners claimed five wickets in the innings and received much support from Ben Aitchison through his three-fer.

Later, the hosts reached 57 with both openers still intact at the crease.
