BBL 2022-23: Inaugural draft round-1 summary

The illustrated Australian franchise tournament Big Bash League is hosting its inaugural overseas player draft. For the first time in the tournament history the players will be selected by a draft system. 


Player Categories

A total of 332 players have been nominated in the draft list, while only a maximum of 24 spots can be filled across the eight club teams. The players nominated in the draft have been categorised as gold (AU$ 260,000 cap), silver ($175,000 cap) and bronze ($100,000) whereas 12 players have been categorised as 'platinum'. 

The platinum category will be auctioned first, followed by gold, silver then bronze.  Also, the platinum category will have the same cap as gold, but with added AU$80,000 flowing in from the Cricket Australia marketing pool. 

The salary cap for players in the BBL is AU$1.9 million.

Round 2

Big names had been left out in the first draft from the platinum list. Platinum players who didn't make it in the first draft will now be available to be picked in the gold category.

  • Asif Ali - Hobart Hurricanes
